Sense Inclusion C.I.C. is an independent specialist therapeutic SEND intervention service supporting children and young people aged 5–25.
Based within the natural surroundings of Robin Hill on the Isle of Wight, we provide a calm, low-arousal and nurturing environment where children and young people can feel safe, understood and supported to engage.
We work with children and young people whose needs may not be fully met within traditional education. Many of those we support experience a combination of SEND, developmental trauma, anxiety, sensory differences, emotional regulation difficulties and barriers to accessing or remaining in education.
Our approach starts with understanding the whole child or young person. We do not focus only on behaviour, attendance or diagnosis. We look at the underlying barriers affecting participation, relationships, regulation, communication, learning and development.
Our multidisciplinary team is clinically supervised and brings together expertise across Occupational Therapy, sensory intervention, therapeutic practice, education, SEMH support, mentoring, physical activity and outdoor learning.
Our work is underpinned by PACE-informed practice — Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy. We use warm, attuned and respectful relationships to help children and young people feel safe enough to engage, explore and develop.
We also place a strong emphasis on fun, creativity and meaningful participation. Activities are designed around individual interests, strengths and developmental needs so that support feels engaging, purposeful and relevant to the child or young person. This allows us to create coordinated, individualised support that is child-focused, relationship-led and outcome-driven.
Support may be delivered individually, in carefully planned small groups, within education settings or as part of a wider multidisciplinary package.
We want to understand what is preventing successful engagement with education and what needs to change to enable meaningful progress.
Who We SupportWe support children and young people with a wide range of additional needs and experiences, which may include:
- Autism
- ADHD
- Developmental trauma
- Attachment difficulties
- Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
- Anxiety and emotionally based school avoidance
- Sensory processing differences
- Developmental coordination difficulties
- Speech, language and communication needs
- Social, emotional and mental health needs
- Developmental delay
- Difficulties accessing or remaining within education
Some children and young people will have a formal diagnosis or Education, Health and Care Plan, while others may be experiencing significant barriers without a clear diagnosis.
We focus on understanding the individual child or young person, their strengths, their needs and the barriers affecting them.
Our ApproachTrauma-responsiveWe recognise how early experiences and trauma can affect emotional regulation, relationships, behaviour and a child's ability to feel safe enough to learn.
Neuro-affirmingWe recognise neurological differences and adapt environments, communication and expectations around individual need.
Relationship-basedSafe, consistent and trusting relationships form the foundation of our work.
Low-arousal and individualisedSupport is paced around developmental, sensory and emotional need rather than expecting every child to fit the same model.
MultidisciplinaryOur professionals work together around shared outcomes rather than delivering isolated interventions.
Outcome-focusedSupport is planned, reviewed and linked to meaningful individual outcomes.
Our CommitmentSense Inclusion is a Community Interest Company.
We exist to create positive outcomes for children, young people, families and the wider community.
Any surplus generated by the organisation is reinvested into developing our services, improving our provision and increasing the support available to the children and young people we work with.
